Acceleration of Transport Infrastructure Development for the Progress of Tourism Sector
JAKARTA - Indonesia Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that the Ministry of Transportation fully supports the tourism sector of Indonesia. The support provided by Kemenhub is through the acceleration of transportation infrastructure development to and from tourist destinations.
This was conveyed by Budi Karya Sumadi as the keynote speaker at the 4th National Coordination Meeting of Tourism 2017 at The Kasablanka Main Hall, Kota Kasablanka, Jakarta, Tuesday (12/12).
As reported from dephub.go.id (14/12), Budi added that in the future he wants the Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali could become an international flight hub. The number of connections at both airports will be upgraded to support the international hub.
"We want Soekarno-Hatta Airport and Ngurah Rai Airport Bali to become an international hub." Soekarno-Hatta Airport currently has only 40 connections, compared to Malaysia and Singapore which have 100 connectivity. The number of connectivity is directly proportional to the number of tourists who come. In the future, we will improve. How to accelerate development, "he explained.
On the same occasion, Indonesia Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said that the tourism sector as Indonesia's economic core. The growth of Indonesia's tourism industry today is 24 percent, where the target of foreign tourists is 20 million in 2019.
"Our target of reaching 20 million foreign tourists in 2019. One extraordinary goal.Indonesia is so potential but even so, we must work hard. In realizing it needs coordination from all stakeholders, both government, agencies and private institutions in promoting Indonesia tourism," conclude Arief.
